Represented Texas 18th Congressional District for eight terms, from 1951 to 1966. Texas Congressman riding in motorcade 11/22/63. Witnessed assassination. DOD: May 31, 2001, in Naples, FL. Survived by wife Catherine of Naples, FL; six children: John Edward, of Manhattan Walter Edward, Jr., Thomas Kelly, Susan Rogers Healey, all of Washington, D.C. area; Robert Peter Joseph of Seely Lake, Montant; Samantha rogers Cutter of Boca Raton, FL; a brother, Fred Rogers, of Austin, TX; twelve grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
