Distinguished petroleum engineer who worked in Dallas oil consulting firm (M. W. Kellogg Co.) during late 1960s and 1970s. "Recently admitted that, since 1942, he received thousands of dollars from the Soviet Union for delivering confidential data about U.S. oil and gas technology." From 1944 to 1965, he worked for Socony Mobil Oil Co. He committed suicide Sun, Feb 20, 1976, in Southbury, Connecticut, hours after Times Herald article appeared. Survived by widow and son, John Warren Rees, of Ashfield, Massachusetts, who knew nothing of Rees' activities.
