CIA. Admitted the Mafia was an important "asset" of the CIA. OSS in 1940. Died in Oxfordshire, England, 1/14/91. Native of Birmingham, Ala. Survived by wife, Lorraine, an archaelologist; sons, Ian, Miles, Jr., Stewart (all involved in rock music); daughter Lennie, a film producer.
